RAGHAVAN IYER

(March 10, 1930 – June 20, 1995)

Raghavan Iyer was Professor of Political Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara from 1965 until his retirement in 1986. Educated in Bombay and at Oxford, he was a Rhodes Scholar and President of the Oxford Union. He taught political philosophy at Oxford for eight years and was a Visiting Professor at the Universities of Oslo, Ghana and Chicago. He was a Consultant to the Fund for the Republic and a member of the Club of Rome and the Reform Club. With his wife Nandini, he established the Santa Barbara branch of the United Lodge of Theosophists and founded the Institute of World Culture in Santa Barbara. He was President of the Institute of World Culture, The Maitreya Academy and The Pythagorean Sangha.
